Medical Receptionist

Our health care organization is seeking a full-time Medical Receptionist to join our team. The individual should be a customer service champion that will be responsible for handling the patient flow at the front desk. This includes answering incoming calls, directing calls to appropriate staff, greeting and checking in all patients for appointments, including registration for new and established patients, scanning insurance cards, entering all demographic and health insurance information into the electronic health record (eClinicalWorks) and working closely with physicians and staff.


RESPONSIBILITIES: 


 

  • Greets and directs patients within the practice. Represents the organization and the practice in a positive and professional manner.
  • Access patient's accounts in a confidential and secure manner in compliance with HIPAA and patient privacy regulations. · Process patient visits by verifying patient information in electronic medical records and appropriately classifying patient visit status. ·
  • Obtain patient demographic and verify insurance information at each visit. Scans pertinent information into the electronic medical record.
  • Collects co-pays from patients and post payments into the electronic medical record.
  • Answer telephones, take messages, and troubleshoot patient calls.

 


Qualifications/Experience

 

  • Minimum of a High School diploma; Associates’ Degree preferred.
  • One to three years relevant experience.
  • EMR experience preferred.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with the ability to multi-task · Strong customer service and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as accept direction on given assignments
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to use discretion while working with sensitive information.
  • Requires accuracy, integrity, and speed

Registered Nurse (full-time position)

Brooklyn Plaza Medical Center, Inc., a Federally Qualified Health Center located in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, has an immediate opening for a full-time Registered Nurseto work primarily at our Whitman-Ingersoll-Farragut site located at 297 Myrtle Avenue in Brooklyn.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Under the supervision of the Medical Director, plans supervises, and coordinates nursing, laboratory, triage services, ordering of supplies, scheduling of staff, and assist in the reporting to the appropriate external health care officials.  

Develops and implements Nursing Policies and Procedures according to standards of the American Nursing Association and program expectations of the U.S. Bureau of Primary Health Care and NYSDOH; Review provider appointment schedules periodically for adequacy and consistency in time increments for life cycles, appointment types etc. to facilitate patient flow; Supervise and train Nursing staff to implement BPMC Protocols for all life cycles; Assists with planning and conducting “mock codes” to insure the clinical staff are prepared in emergency medical situations as well as compliance with regulatory requirements.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current New York State Nurse License; Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, and RN License.  
  • Minimum of five years of direct nursing experience preferably in primary care and recent experience (within last two years) working in a supervisory capacity.   
  • Experience in an outpatient setting and familiarity with Community Health Center operations.   
  • Current CPR/BLS certification.   
  • Culturally competent with skills/experience working with diverse populations.   
  • Order and maintain adequate medical supplies including emergency medications for patient care activity in conjunction with the Purchasing Coordinator.   
  • Ensure that all medical equipment is maintained for proper functioning in patient care in conjunction with the Facilities Director.   
  • Ensure clinical tracking and patient follow up for: abnormal laboratory, diagnostic and subspecialty test results, and Emergency Room visits through assigned staff.

Licensed Practical Nurse (full-time position)

Brooklyn Plaza Medical Center, Inc., a Federally Qualified Health Center located in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, has an immediate opening for a Full-Time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to work primarily at our Brooklyn Plaza Medical Center, Inc. site located at 650 Fulton Street in Brooklyn.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, the LPN will be responsible for performing nursing functions in the areas of triage, physical assessment, patient education, medical charting and the provision of ordered injections, consistent with the policies of the Center and appropriate regulations of New York State. This position will also assist the HIV Clinical Coordinator in appropriate clinical and chart review activities.
  • Assist in the implementation and monitoring of BPMC's Health Plan Objectives. Interview patients and record significant patient data including existing and potential health problems and related patient responses.  
  • Participate in referral and follow-up procedures appropriate to the health care of the patient. 
  • Administer prescribed medications and impart to the patient any necessary information regarding the medication. 
  • Counsel and instruct patients/customers individually and in groups as requested - health education. 
  • Maintain an environment in the examining room in which the patient can be cared for in comfort, safety and with dignity. 
  • Assist in the supervision of ancillary staff including Medical Assistants; under the direction of the Nurse Manager. 
  • Inform appropriate Clinical staff and /or case managers of the medical regimen in such a way as to assure its being carried out. 
  • Record in the patient’s file and report to appropriate professional personnel any information pertinent to the care of the patient. 
  • Review patient's records prior to and following the medical examination in order that the medical and nursing regimen is implemented.
  • Participate in referral and follow-up procedures appropriate to the health care of the patient with the appropriate referral clerk. 
  • Perform venipuncture, EKG, vision and hearing testing, measures weight, BIP and vital signs, administers immunizations, PPD's and ensure injections for HIV/AIDS patients.
  •  Perform duties as delegated by the Nurse Manager to meet the day-to-day requirements of the patients and of the Center. 
  • Maintain competence in practice through continuing education and other appropriate learning experiences designed to foster career development.  
  • Manages the care of patients in collaboration with other health professionals and members of the health care team in order to make decisions about treatment and achieve goals . 
  • Perform other Center duties as required. 

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Possession of a current and valid New York State License as a Practical Nurse, and evidence of appropriate education equivalent to the Associate Arts Degree in nursing. 
  • Previous experience in a licensed ambulatory health care facility and a minimum of two years of direct LPN experience preferable in primary care. Experience and knowledge of HIV/AIDS is essential. 
  • Demonstrated ability in performance as a Licensed Practical Nurse as evidence through work reference from previous employers. 
  • Culturally competent with skills/experience working with diverse populations. 
  • Ability and desire to provide service to all lifecycles consistent with New York State Health Department and the Bureau of Primary Health Care Program (Federal) Guidelines.

Medical Assistant (full-time position)

Brooklyn Plaza Medical Center, Inc., a Federally Qualified Health Center located in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, has an immediate opening for a Full-Time Medical Assistant to work primarily at our Brooklyn Plaza Medical Center, Inc. site located at 650 Fulton Street in Brooklyn.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The Medical Assistant works with the LPN, RN, and Medical Director in performing all patient care activity of Brooklyn Plaza Medical Center Inc., In some cases the Medical Assistant will perform specific tasks such as phlebotomy and supervision of the Center's limited laboratory services.
  • Interviews patient and records significant patient care and family history data about existing and long-term health conditions and problems.  
  • Takes vital signs, height, weight, pulse and respiratory rate, blood pressure, temperature, etc.  
  • Performs EKG, vision and hearing screening.  
  • Records in the patient's medical record and reports to the appropriate clinical professional provider any information pertinent to the care of the patient/customer/client.    
  • Participate in referral and follow-up procedures appropriate to the health care of the patient.  
  • Reviews patient's medical record prior to and following the medical examination in order that the medical/nursing regimen can be implemented.  
  • Perform duties as delegated by the Nurse Manager or other authorized professional to meet the day-to-day requirements of the patient and of the Center.  
  • Manages the care of patients in collaboration with other health professionals and members of the health care team in order to make decisions about treatment and achieve goals. 

Laboratory Functions
 
  • Maintain lab space and facility in clean and safe working order consistent with all Health 
  • Department and Center for Disease Control regulations, if and when appropriate.  
  • Inform patients of procedure for drawing blood  
  • Explain the type of test being performed.  
  • Draw blood or collect urine specimen (as appropriate).  
  • Process specimens in computer. 
  • Process normal and abnormal pap smears. 
  • Ensure that specimens are picked up the contract laboratory.  
  • Perform on-site tests as applicable and appropriately directed. 
  • Perform all blood collection, blood preparations, urine specimen packaging and referrals to reference lab consistent with the Center's approved Limited Laboratory Policy and Procedures.  
  • Perform other limited functions as ordered by the provider and consistent with licensed supervision. 
  • Record and maintain appropriate files and journals as required by the New York City Department of Health and to assure accurate assessment and review of services performed.  
  • Assure the accurate accounting of lab services performed as required by Financial Services and to assist in making all corrections and update to the patient care profile maintained in the respective computer files of the Center and the reference lab. 

REQUIREMENTS:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required. 
  •  Graduation from a certified and accredited training program for medical assistants.  
  • A verified record of performing phlebotomy functions and related functions in a medical office, health care facility or other legally provider organization of medical and health care services. 
  • One year of on the job experience is preferred.  
  • Bilingual or multilingual capability is preferred.  
  • A neat, clean and orderly appearance and a pleasing and flexible personality are of utmost importance.  
  • Certification in life support system must exist and or be obtained within 90 days of employment.
